A Platinum holder can put three Authorized Users (AU) onto their card as Platinum holders, and a few Gold cards for free. So my question is, if you invoke the Gold Card option, do you earn points at the Gold Care rate as in 4 pts at restaurants etc, or at the Platinum rate?
If at the Gold rate, would it be possible to add yourself as the Gold card holder, use the Gold card when it makes sense for the additional point earning and still reap the Platinum benefits?

You rich Platinum users thinking you can come down to our level without us knowing? You gotta take that 250 AF like the rest of us!
Hahahahaha! Pay the $250 AF so you can earn as we do, haha!
Anyways, like it was said, authorized users of the Platinum card receive "gold cards" but not the same "gold card" that people get when they apply for the gold card online. Confusing? Sorry, haha! To make it easier, the authorized users would be earning multipliers based on the Platinum multipliers. These "gold cards" are an extension of the Platinum card but without the super thick card and I'm not too sure about Centurion lounge access.
Thanks all for being so willing to spend my money.
I have contemplated having both the Platinum and the Gold as yu have recommended. I travel two to three times a month and have the Platinum due to this as it is the best deal for airport lounges and other beneftis. I do not gain much on the Platinum points as my company pays for my tickets. I do need to see if i can buy and just be reimbursed. I spend about 1500 a month on Amex so i need to just calculate what the benefit would be with holding the gold in addition. I woudl say about 750 is restaurants so that would be 4 points on that. I guess that worked out to 36K points a year. That maybe enough to put me in the plus column on the Gold.

The platinum card has 2 levels of AU accounts. Both have the same rewards structure as the Platinum. Both cards share the same credits ( no doubling of credits)
AU $175 fee for up to 3 cards
GE credit
Delta Skyclub Access
Amex Centurion Lounge
Priority Pass Membership
THC/FHR access
AU Gold card $0
GE credit
Ability to make charges
If you are only adding one person its a tough value proposition to pay $175 for lounge access but if the person travels enough it would be well worth it.

I recently added an authorized user and they were sent a gold card by mistake (I'd ordered it by phone and the agent also misspelled the name).
Not only doesn't it earn like the Gold Card, but it's an old-style gold card - plastic, raised numbers, etc.
What I have decided to do, is go with the Cap 1 Savor family. Unsure if Savor or Savor One. Leanning Savor One to avoid the 95 dollar fee.
