Question about Discover CLI's.

When you talk to a credit analyst and they request a HP do they just go by what the computer generates or can they manually make a decision on what credit limit increase they will give you? My limit is $2,000 and would like to jump to $10,000 but my highest credit limit is with another card at $2,700 so I am not sure if they would give that to me though. Thanks.

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

I'm assuming that since it is a HP and a person is sitting there looking to accept or deny, that they would be at least scanning the report so they could call to attention any anomalies they find. Similar to when you call in to recon a new card app, the CSR's I've spoken to have the report pulled up in front of them.

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

So they are able to input whatever number they feel is good? That's great then.

As I understand it Discover likes to see some activity on your card. Having a zero balance month after month will drastically lower the odds of getting a CLI with them.

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

I just charged a single item that is about 77% of my CL. I'm going to let some report this month instead of paying it all off. I'm not sure how much though. Maybe 40-50%? I dunno, I just want a good CLI.

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

I wouldn't let more than a 20% balance report...but that's just me.  From what I've learned, anything above 30% will be looked at and scored negatively.

I could be wrong though.

I'll be corrected soon enough. lol

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

I can easily pay it down to 20%, should I is the question.

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

Oh, and 20% on my DiscoIT would be only 5.7% of total CL. I do have some wiggle room.

Re: Question about Discover CLI's.

I asked for a CLI a few weeks ago... the CSR was very helpful. We tried a soft first and that didn't go through. I felt good about my odds so we proceed wtih a hard pull. She asked me for the amount I would like and advised that if its not approved, the system will come back with an amount I am approved for. I asked for 20k and it came back with a 5k limit (my prior limit was $1,300). So it was worth the hard pull. I use my discover card reguarly though. Statement cuts with a balance that I normally pay most if not all of.

May I ask what your total CL is, your highest CL, current utilization?
