Question on Capital One denial and letter for reconsideration

Hello all,

I am doing my best to clean up my reports thanks to all of the great info on these boards!  I have a question regarding the denial I just received from Capital One in trying to get back with them.

I had a credit card I opened back in 2004 which I became delinquent on.  I had 4 30 days late, 1 60 day late, and 3 90 days late.  I ended up paying them in full, but I guess in now reading through the boards is I paid them but didn't negotiate to have them change paid in full Charge off!  The last date of activity with them was July 2007.

I also had a medical loan I took out in 2006 with them.  I also fell delinquent for a while with them, but at least on this account I paid it in full and the status shows pays as agreed.  On this loan I also have some 30, 60 and 90 day late.  This account was paid in full and closed on June 2010.

My question now is, since I have obviously done my best and my reports are clean after my financial mess above from 2007-2008 will capital one ever let me back in?  I understand that this is basically the reason it will take me a while to get back in with them or any of the prime cards for that matter but I have managed to finally this year get credit on my own.  My scores have gone up.

So... the letter I received from Capital One today states: Thank you for recent request for a credit card issued by Capital One.  After reviewing your application and/or information obtained from your credit report we have determined that we cannot grant your request for credit at this time.

The reason for not approving your request is:

Based on the application information for ********, there are too many delinquent past or present Capital One credit obligations.

We based our decision strictly on a review of application information according to our credit guidelines.  We did not request a copy of your credit file.  If you feel you have additional information you wish to submit to us that might influence our decision, feel free to write to us at the address listed at the top of this letter.  Please include the refer#.

So my question is it worth it for me to write a letter to try to get back in with Capital One?  Does any one have experience with this sort of situation and if so what was the outcome?

Thanks!

Re: Question on Capital One denial and letter for reconsideration

Back in my young and dumb about credit days I burned them for about 1k and never paid them back. Once it dropped off my reports. 7 years later I applied and was shot down. Waited 6 more months and applied and was approved. 61 days later I apped for a second and got it also.

Re: Question on Capital One denial and letter for reconsideration

So now I am wondering if it is better to just let them fall off my reports?  I was also wondering if it would make it worst to even bother writing any GO letters since these two accounts are two of the four on my reports that are basically having my scores not raise much more now.

Yeah definitely you can get back in. I'd GW GW GW especially since you paid them. Also forget the letter, call the backdoor number (below). State your case and be professional and courteous. Nothing to lose by trying. Cap1: 800-548-4593 (application department; status) Cap1: 800-889-9939 or 800-625-7866.(Account Specialist)

Re: Question on Capital One denial and letter for reconsideration

I just called the 800-625-7866, and basically gave me the whole were sorry but we cannot do anything about it.  Then she went on to say try back in 45 days since the system will not even allow the application.  She did ask if I had applied online , which I said yes.  She told me when I call back to do it over the phone and to call some 800-955 number.  Why would their be a difference, and she said it wouldn't be a system denial....

Still don't get it.  I will see if I want to try again in 45 days......

I think she means so it will be manual review. Human always is better IME. In the meantime start mailing the GW Letters. Keep us posted and don't give up either.
