Hmm i will definitely check with the cu and see what they have to offer. Only thing is Im self employed, would that hurt me?
And where are you getting 2.5% i need to bank with them.
I understand what you are saying, i see everyone talking about chase/barclay like they are best but amex really seems better for me.
Find another CU if yours isn't giving you a good APY. I get 2.5% with mine in the middle of Wisconsin and got 1.5% from my CU in Minneapolis.
For Biz: Amex Simply Cash (pays out slightly less for us than Chase.) Capital 1 Spark classic 1% for starter biz, Regular Spark 1.5% or 2% depending on if you pay the $49 or so annual fee. We have a Spark Sigggy for our biz, Chase INk or Ink Pref both are good. We are waiting to get over 5/24 to go to Chase Ink. Other good cards for personal Discover, Citi Double Cash and Capital 1 QS. We have all thee. Citi pays out the most % but for Discover Deals (5%) and 1st year cash match with Discover. To get points with Citi DC you cannot pay early so does hurt utilization. Discover is very friendly and nice and US based.
With Amex two issues 1) not everybody takes it 2) what they call a supermarket is limited. We just got a Blue Cash Pref Amex and have been testing the waters. See the post about Amex Supermarkets. If your supermarket is on Amex list, Pref with the $95 is the way to go with highest % back, also they have 3% gas. They do have a sign up bonus and 6 month eating out bonus that includes fast food. It has our highest limit. We also shop at a few of the bonus stores. Good Luck
CK suggestions list is strange at best. We did go through CK preapproval for Amex. We then went to the Amex site to verify before applying. At one point my file was very thin, High AA of old closed cards, 2 new cards and a very good score. I followed what CK suggested and got burnt. DW and I tend to ignore their suggestions and rely on preapprovals either in the mail or on websites. At this point we only want a better business card ie Chase Ink. We usually pif but want to get apr down anyway. Amex gave her 13.xx and we will start later this year to get the rates down so if per chance we don't pif we won't pay a fortune in interest. So we are gardening waiting for 5/24 to drop Good Luck again.
