That may be something totally different.
So if its via phone its a SP and if you get an agent it's a HP or I have this wrong and htey are both SP for AMEX

My PayPal SC card, initial CL was 500, I hit the luv button after 6 months with them, they gave me 125CLI bringing my CL to 625 then 4 months later I hit the luv button, got the "Your request was denied because you have insufficient experience with your current credit line" I waited one week and hit the luv button again and when the page loaded it said, "Your line has been increased to 2150, Congratulations"
GE is a funky bunch IMO.

For me CLI's with AmEx have always been soft, weather I do it VIA automated or spoke to a rep.

I think in the credit world the abbreviation YMMV is under-rated

So the system can either automatically grant you a CLI or it transfers you to a live agent or you have th echoice to speak with a live agent?

One time I called and was doing my CLI request VIA the automated system on my DROIDX and I hit the wrong key and it transferred me to a CSR who took my request, I asked for 3X my current limit and was instantly approved after being on hold for less than 5 seconds, the other two times I just called and did it with a CSR.
But to answer your question, if you do it VIA the automated system and you ask for XX amount, it will either approve you or counter you (or decline you) if for some reason they need more info, I would assume you would be transferred to a CSR.
Thanks for the clarification.
I'm seeing a lot of 3x cli's so its giving me hope.

As always CS you are welcome my Friend.
If you feel comfortable asking for 3X, do it, the worst that can happen is they counter you.
On my last request with my BCP 5K initial CL, I did not want to push it, so I asked for an additional 7400 and was instantly approved bringing my BCP to 12,400 (odd CLI request I know) but that was the # I felt comfortable with and I got it.
I'm Wishing you the Best my Friend.
