Should I try to merge my Slate and Sapphire CL?

I've had a Chase slate for about 8 years and it is my oldest credit card.  The limit was $300 for the past 8 years til I called the EO last week and got a CLI to $1500.  I was also approved for a Chase Sapphire (not preferred) last week with a 5k CL.  Should I call chase to try to merge my Slate limit onto my Sapphire so that I can have a total limit of $6500?  My 2nd oldest card after my Slate is a best buy card that is about 5 years old.

Re: Should I try to merge my Slate and Sapphire CL?

if you merge ur slate onto sapphire, it will look like you closed the slate and added credit to the sapphire.. (same as you closed your oldest card and asked for cli on a newer one)

What's wrong with keeping 2 cards? damage has already been done....

I would pc slate to freedom for its reward structure and let sapphire be

if you don't want 2 cards I would merge sapphire onto slate instead and product change to sapphire or freedom.

Why not call and ask if you can PC the slate to a Sapphire, merge the sapphire CL with the Slate, thereby keeping your oldest TL, the product you want and having a higher CL.  They will leave $500 on the closing account though (from what I've heard).

If memory serves Chase will allow you to move around CL's but they have a minimum you must leave of the card, I want to say it's $500.  You can certainly close it but you'll lose that last bit of CL.

+1 correct

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

thats not true it all depends on who you talk to i had an old wamu account 1000cl and my amazon was at 1800 i got them to take the whole 1000 and move it to the amazon and close the wamu account... when i look online it still shows the old wamu account but with a cl of 100.00 the old account has been closed on my reports! then a few months back i asked for a cli on my amazon to 5k and they gave me the other 2200
