So what cards do you use for max cash back?

Hello. I'm wondering what cards do you use for maximum cash back?

I use my discover mostly, %5 cash back categories have been good so far and shopDiscover is pretty awesome. However with $50 payout, its a little annoying.

Also got the Chase freedom, but looking like the categories won't be too great, but it offeres 1%  cash back on everything else.

I tried and failed to get the us bank cash+ card.

I love cash back (main reason for even having a credit card),

So what cards do you use?

My ultimate credit wish,

Re: So what cards do you use for max cash back?

well i have an emplyoee bank card but its only 500 limit. 3% cash back on most used catg. that statement 1% cash back on everything else. (forever)

consumer end card same bank(got this off preapproval no hard inq) 2k limit  5% cash back on everything first 90 days and then same as above. (for new customers they offer 10% for first 90 days no cap)

chase freedom- but next quarter is going to suck. if iphone 5 came out october 1st i could get the 5% cash back on that but no.

but if you use the ultimate rewards mall you could earn some great cash back.

and amex zync has reward points but not the same as cash back.

Re: So what cards do you use for max cash back?

I combine Discover More + Chase Freedom 5% Cashback along with my Amex BCP categories. All purchases that don't fit into any of the bonus categories on the three cards go either on Chase or Amex to get 1% (since Discover doesn't hit 1% until $3,000 and never gives 1% at big box stores).

As for the $50 payout minimum, have you ever looked at getting partner gift cards from Discover? They generally give you a bonus amount (i.e. $25 gift card for $20 in cashback). That makes your 5% cashback go even further. For Chase and Amex, I just do cashback to my account as their minimums are $20 and $25, respectively (neither of them offer many bonuses for getting gift cards).

PenFed for 5% cash back on gas / different PenFed for 3% cash back on groceries / Discover for 5% categories only / AmEx Delta for everything else (miles turn into more than 1% when used)

Re: So what cards do you use for max cash back?

Discover More for everything except:

BoA 123 for gas when its not 5% on Discover

Amex BCE for department stores and groceries when not 5% on Discover

US Bank Cash+ for drug stores (2%), fast food (5%, I use Discover instead when its 5%), pay bills (5%). Gets used when a store doesn't accept Discover.

I have a Chase Freedom but I never ever use it because I hate their customer service. My Wells Fargo Cash Back card get 1% on everything, but I only use it for a few small things a month.

Discover IT $35K | FNBO Visa $30K | Cash+ Visa Sig $19.5K | Southwest Premier $16K | Priceline $15K | Citi Forward $14.3K | US Bank Plat $14K | Commerce Bank $13K | CSP $13K | CSR $10K | Sallie Mae World MC $10K | Lowe’s Consumer 10K | BoA Cash Rewards 1-2-3 Sig $7.5K | Fidelity Visa $7K | Citi Double Cash $6.5K | WF Cash Back Visa $5.4K | Capital One Cash Rewards $5K | AMEX BCE $3.9K | Freedom $2.5K | Younkers/Comenity $2.4K | Kohl’s 1.5K | Target $1.4K | EX FICO (from AMEX): 768, TU FICO (from Discover): 797, AAoA: 4.4 years

Amazon is a great choice to redeem discover points.  I redeemed all of my points (19.27) and bought a $22 dollar item for less than 3 bucks.

Discover and Freedom 5% categories for now.  My next round of apps will include the BCP and maybe Cash+ and Citi Dividend to add even more 5% opportunities.  I'm going to have to start carrying a cheat sheet to keep track of which card to use.

Oh ya I forgot about that! I might be using my Discover More more now.

I really hate how discover has that limit on cash back from the first $3000 per year. I'd really use it for everything if it offered 1% on everything else.

But are points on an amex card equivalnt to 1% cash back? I have an amex green charge card, but it takes two cycles for point to even apear and it seemed like points weren't worth much.

Re: So what cards do you use for max cash back?

I put everything I can on my Costco Amex card (True Rewards).

I pay it off every month so no interest.  I got back $518 back last year.

It's nice to get $$$ from a credit card company instead of the other way around! Smiley Very Happy

Re: So what cards do you use for max cash back?

I use:

US Bank Cash+ for an effective 6.25% on utilities/bills and electronics, and 2.5% at drug stores

Amex BCP for 6% at the grocery store, which includes the pharmacy and any gift cards I buy for places that I don't otherwise get good CB at

Penfed for 5% on gas & 3% @ department stores

Citi Forward for 5% @ restaurants, movie/music stores, & Amazon

For the little else that's not covered by the above, Priceline Visa for 2% on anything
