Interesting. I too had trouble collecting the agreed signup bonus from them (it was $200). I eventually got it, after complaining to the CFPB.

Thank you for the post, @SouthJamaica. I have been seriously considering the SoFi Credit Card to replace my AOD Visa Signature if/when it is nerfed for existing customers. I will likely find a different alternative between your experiences and those of @longtimelurker.

I only got it for the no FTF 2% with not too many strings attached, which at the time was relatively rare.  I got a $30K SL so lack of CLIs wasn't an issue, but there are certainly lots of alternatives now, each with their own quirks.

I have been seriously considering it because it is, specifically, a "no FTF 2% [Mastercard] with not too many strings attached." I think the SoFi might still be the only one of its kind in that respect. I have multiple no FTF Visas, but I am lacking a no FTF Mastercard (unless my Target RedCard converts, but that may never happen).

FirstTech and I think there was one more a few years ago with no FTF and no PIN at least (one of the MC World Elite IIRC or whatever it was called) with a hefty AF,  but the SOFI 2% is a darned nice feature on no-FTF MC.

I may never travel outside of the country again so that is kind of moot for me, and where I went before I happily swiped my CSR for literally everything.

I am curious @SouthJamaica, what is your favorite credit card? You seem pretty practical, much like myself. I am very drawn to AmEx because they make things easy and the customer service is good. But I obviously have diversified my portfolio with many different lenders.

I don't really have a favorite. I like to diversify, and don't try to maximize rewards. On spending my approach is to have some decent rewards cards, and alternate among them each month. The only maximization I do is to try to avoid 1% returns when I can.

For spending some of my favorites are Chase Amazon Prime Visa, Citi DoubleCash Mastercard, Citi Premier Mastercard, Amex Blue Cash Everyday, Amex Hilton Honors, and possibly my new Comenity AAA Travel Advantage Visa.

For money management some of my favorites are PenFed Promise Visa (no longer being offered), Navy Platinum Visa, BECU Platinum Visa, Vantage West Connect Visa (no longer being offered outside of geo-fence), and Unify Platinum Visa.

And things change!  In 2015, Barclays Ring was your favorite credit card (Barclay Ring Card Question - myFICO® Forums - 4278786) and now I don't think you have anything positive to say about Barclays!

One day I applied for a SoFi credit card; it seemed pretty good, 2% cash back.

I wasn't enthused to learn that you could only redeem on your mobile app and not on your computer, or that to get 2% you could only redeem by depositing into a SoFi account, but neither of those inconveniences rose to the level of a strike.

Strike 1 was when I learned that they have a policy of no CLI's. You cannot get a credit limit increase, period. Later I learned why -- because they securitize all of their credit accounts. So you're totally bucketed in perpetuity, on all of their accounts, like Capital One does on some of its accounts.

Strike 2 was when I had a fraudulent charge on my card, I notified them, they indicated that the charge would be credited and a new card issued, and then ....  they just let the fraudulent charge sit there until one of their "fraud specialists" gets around to looking at it, and to make matters worse they then reported to the credit bureaus the balance which consisted of the fraudulent charge.

I do not recommend this card.

I might be an outlier, but I've had no issues with SoFi thus far and the SUB/points posted in a reasonable timeframe. Though, I was approved for this card a few months ago (SL is just a tad bit shy lower than yours $27.5K), but moderate/large transactions haven't been declined. I haven't used it yet for any international transactions yet to determine whether any issues may arise with things getting declined but we shall see.

Re: Strike 2 on SoFi credit card

SoFi has been working better for me, I was able to send stuff to addresses in the UK without a problem, and charging Uber rides within the UK worked fine.  But:

1) Travel notifications.   I don't know if they really matter but you have to call these in (because a FinTech wouldn't use anything like their app or email!).   I had to extend my stay and the toll-free (833?) number wouldn't work from the UK on my US or UK carrier.  However, the card kept on working so maybe no biggie.

2) When I was back, I needed to place a subscription.   The attempt failed and I received a fraud text asking if it was me.  I confirmed and it said now it should be fine.  I tried again, with the same result.   So switched to my trusty citizens card and it was immediately approved.

OK, wrong name, wrong address and wrong phone number for the card, but if you ask for confirmation and I give it, that should be enough!  And if boring old citizens can cope......
