maybe Synchrony is preparing for next year, when Capital One takes over Walmart cards.

Do the Sync accounts translate to Cap1 accounts at the end of the year?

This is a common one from sync, literally just means ‘not this time, try again next month’ lol.
Can confirm, I got that last month when I tried for a CLI; I'd gotten a $1K CLI the previous month. Just try again, or give it a couple of month's rest and then go back and hit the button again.

No; the transition won't actually happen until September 2019.

Not until August of 2019. I believe it is not yet certain if the Sync accounts will translate to Cap1 account, or if Synchrony will retain their portfolio and just convert Walmart cards to general purpose cards.

I forgot about that bit. Should that happen (and I certainly do see Sync wanting to hold on to the customers they already do have so as to lessen the blow from losing the Walmart account), I guess that the most likely course of action is for Sync to create a new general-purpose card, likely a MC since most if not all of their cobranded bankcards are MC's, for Walmart store card account holders. I'm not sure how well transferring account holders to another co-branded bankcard would go over.
