Anyone had success with promotional mail offering 18 mos interest free on purchases and also encouraging you to visit website and request an increase? Did it result in a soft pull or hard pull? How much was the average increas? I just recieved the offer and I am hesitant. I've had my card for 12 yrs, had a higher limit but it was reduced when I went into foreclosure years ago. My balance is 0 on the card. I only keep it for the available credit/utilization and charge about 15 bucks every 3 months to keep it active.
Yes. I won't bite. I'm experimenting with HD. I'm waiting for a auto CLI.
I had my HD consumer card since 8/10. Started with a $500 CL. Maxed it out and carried a balance for 5 months (6 months 0%) and paid it off. Requested a $1500.00 CLI at about 8 months. Was approved with a HP. Sometime later I maxed it out again. This time 18 months 0%. Been making 2-3 times the minimum plus PIF the regular purchases for about 12 months. Still no auto CLI. The last two months I paid $500.00 each. Brought my balance down to $79.00 which I will PIF in April. Still no auto CLI. Promotion ends May 20. Maybe then?
I guess what I'm saying is, if they think I'm worthy they will give me an increase. If not, That's OK too as my wife's Lowes card has $10K CL.
Just sharing my recent CLI experience on my Home Depot card. I actually requested a CLI online last night. CL was 1,200 and I asked for 1,300 to make it a total CL of 2,500. I logged onto my account this morning and they increased it to 2,750. It did cost a HP on my EQ report. Had the card for 7-8 months IIRC. Also to add, just in case it mattered, I did pay it off to a zero balance before requesting my CLI last night.
I didn't receive a letter, but I requested an increase via the online form and went from 3k to 8800. It was a hard pull, but it was well worth it.

Whoa...very nice. Congrats!
Nice! I have had my account for 15 yrs. In 07 due to scores taking a dive the reduced my credit limit. Was never late or anything. When they did that I cut the card up, kept line of credit open. Periodically they send me notice to charge or lose the card so I go and spend ten and come right home and pay it off online autopay the same night. I called them tonight and told them they need to send me a replacement card, because I had cut theirs up. I don't even know my account number. I told her I received the mailer on the new program and that prompted me to call and request card. I should've asked her while I had her on the line about increase/hard or soft pull but I didnt She did thank me for being a loyal customer for 15 yrs. I will call back once I get the card in, offer is good till 3/31/13 if they don't do an auto increase before then, which is what I want!
I've had a Home Depot card for a while now, it was the first of the big box store cards that I got. Started out with a small CL. First CLI was a phone call to them, asking them to double it, which they did...to $6000. Got an auto-CLI to $7500 about a year later. Last summer got the offer of 24mo/zero interest for purchases of $499 or more. Since I was planning to buy a TUFF shed from them, this was my motivation to go ahead. Made the purchase and they did another auto-CLI to $9700. Only SP for the various CLI, no HP on any of them. Now getting mailings/emails for the same thing again, but for 18mo rather than 24mo, again for purchases over $499, and if I do, they will bump me up to $11,700! Very tempted but right now there's nothing that I need for more than $499! And besides, I'm in the Garden!
Initially had 3000 credit line with Home Depot, was quite happy with that and bought appliances at 24 months no interest, well after making several payments well above minimum amount they DECREASED my credit line to 2400 so my balance of 2400 now maxed my card out, i was fuming mad, i called and they said they do periodic credit pulls and due to my lower score they decreased my limit. I said i've made all my payments on time and well above the minimum i was told they dont look at that only your score. There has been NO increase for over a year, my balance is now 1200 i plan to pay it off and never use it again. I've had MUCH better luck with Lowes started at 750 credit line and used it a few times, paid it off, now a year later is up to 3500 credit line and its automatic i dont even have to ask/risking a HP. I guess im sticking with them
That's what they did to me, decreased my limit from 6500k down to 500 in 07 despite spotless history with them which is why I stopped using it. I think I will pass and try for CLI on one of my major bank cards instead, even though they reduced my lines of credit initially they didnt hit me as hard as home depot did!
