Am I the only one who shops at Target and doesn't get asked? Granted, since I started paying off debt I don't shop there as often as I used to. But I've never, regardless of what I've been buying, been asked if I wanted to apply.
I'd say no, if asked now, as 15 cards is more than enough. But at one point I might have said yes. But never asked.

I don't think it's that cut & dried. In fact, having worked retail years ago, I'd bet that it's not a function of the person making the purchase, but is instead related to the particular store/district manager. If the store manager's asked all the employees to push the cards, they do. If not, they don't. There well may have been some sort of incentive thing going on when I was asked.
They'd have had no reason to ask me the day I was in there. I'd intended to pay with cash, and looked like someone they might've had store security follow around, not someone they really should've been asking about credit cards!
I only applied when I kept getting 'pre-approval' notices (ie. - the cashier said i was 'preapproved' and I saw it on my receipt). After the fourth pre-approval, I accepted. Most of the time I get asked if I would like to apply for one, but that doesn't count as a pre-approval. I noticed I would get the pre-approval by using either my debit card (when a lot of money was in my account) or a paid off credit card.
I am excited to see CLI's from folks - I've had mine for almost 5 months now - started out with a $3K CL - hope to see an automatic increase someday!!

Ha! Sounds like me most weekends except I wear a Nike cap and no makeup! (I love weekends!) ![]()
While I don't shop at Target very often, I have been asked if I wanted to apply for a Target card and receive 10% off my purchase. I know for a fact that I spend under $100 on my trips so I don't think the amount of my purchase has anything to do with the solicitation. Sometimes I pay with my debit card and other times a Visa(?), so not sure what criteria is used when determining who's going to get an offer at the register.
if you have a target red (I've had mine since 5/08; no cli to 500 boo), do they ever upgrade it to a visa @ the register or do you get a 'preapproval' receipt for the target visa like you do for the red card? or does the visa just come in the mail? just trying to figure out if the clerk was just asking me b/c the store is pimping the visa (that store has NEVER asked + I spend a lot of $ there) or b/c targets quirky secret system told her I'd likely get approved (but wouldn't a Preapproval slip come up?).
not planning on applying cold (@ least not now), but am hoping they will upgrade me to the target visa. I like shopping @ target, but hard to use the 200 cl much w/o killing utilization.
my target card started at the usual 200 and then at 3mo went to 500. I was buying a wii there and was close to my limit the cashier asked if i would like to upgrade to a visa, I said sure he typed some info in and said they
couldnt upgrade me and i would receive a letter. sure enough I received a letter about a week later that stated that my redcard account had not been opened long enough. So It sounds like you may be able to request an
upgrade at the store. My account was opened in 3/08 so will try again at the 1 year mark.
