The joys of high CLs

Just had a scorewatch alert.  A balance has increased a great deal on one CC (and has actually already been paid off, but that is another story).  A year ago this would have tanked my score and I would not have understood, because I were not well edukated in the FICO game.

Now I have spare CLs all over the place, the card did not even reach 10% util, my total util is below 5% and my score has not changed.

Thank you for the education.

PS.

And that is without my Amex Blue or my Chase CLI reporting!!!!  That is another $14,000 of CL for the future

Re: The joys of high CLs

I have a BOA CL with 40,000 with a $3 bal. I also have one CC that has over 48% bal and it has not affected me at all. Oh the joy!!

Poor fused. This must just madden you!

Congrats, MV! Isn't it great having good CL's? Smiley Happy

Re: The joys of high CLs

FICO scoring just baffles me sometimes. I have some big lines but when my util goes up to 18% on a single card and my overall util goes from 6 or 7% to 9% my FICO TU score plunged 31 points. If I had it my way I would have only 3 major CCs with 50K lines and 1 store card PIF stored away in an old spam can in my garage. Big lines remove util from the FICO scoring game.

Not sure if you're in the same buckets as they are, though. You have way more TL's, it seems like, and no mortgage. Maybe MV and others fall into the bucket of reassuring borrowers with good scores, mortgages, and not a lot of credit usage normally going on, whereas you look like a credit playa or something, getting ready to buy Guam with your new Discover Green Haze or whatever it is.

I realize I'm babbling here! Smiley Very Happy

Me, a playa! Ha! Actually my credit usage was always low until I did a couple of BTs but these will hopefully be paid quickly. My goal is to have only 2 of my eight cards reporting tiny balances. It may take 3 months before this reports. I'm hoping for a 20 point gain. CITI is offering me a big line of credit but I don't need it so I won't app.

Re: The joys of high CLs

Here is one more bucket thing for you fused. I got a FICO alert Wednesday saying I gained 10 pts because a balance ($7) reported to one of my CC's. I thought it had to be a joke but it wasn't. Things to make you say hmmm. I want to stay in this bucket that I am in. So now my EQ is at 701Smiley Very Happy
