Before I learned the shopping cart trick, I applied for a Comenity card via the app way. I also got the 7-10 message, but I got the card about a week later Don't give up yet!

Ultimately the decision to apply is up to you. The shopping cart trick does not work all the time but that doesn't mean that if you outright applied you would be denied either. The point they were trying to make was why waste an inquiry, the newly paid off CA plus your scores more than likely would be a denial.
