I am seriously considering apping for this card, but would like to know more about it from people who have it.
Are the categories fairly consistant?
Are you happy with it?
I am assuming that I would qualify based on what I see, but is it really hard to get?
I remember a bit about then taking away bill payment, but it seems they brought back cell phone.
Last CC app was 6/2012. Mortgage app in 11/2012. Nothing in last 6 months. only inqs less than a year are those.
There has only been that one (big!) change in categories. They reserve the right to change them, but they don't intend to be a rotator like Discover IT or Freedom
The changes replaced those categories most prone to "abuse", bill pay, flights, and home improvement (lots of gift cards available at some home improvement stores), and replaced it with cell phones, bookstores and another one. Bookstores covers amazon so that is pretty useful.
Two more negative changes have been confirmed: July the $25 bonus goes to once per cal year (currently every time you redeem $100), and in Sep/Oct, the bonus for having a bank account goes away. There are also rumors that the 5% categories will get capped, but not confirmed yet.
Edit: You ask, are you happy? There are sort of two different answers here. The card before was a potential goldmine to some, and the changes stop this. So those people are not happy. Then you can look at its current state and forget the history. Is this a good card? Yes, providing the categories are where you spend. The idea of choose your own, non-rotating categories, is still a very nice feature.
I was planning on apping for this card in a few months, but they have done away with the online apps.
So if you are apping via phone, please update the rest of us if you are successful, since I don't happen to have a branch within 1,000 miles of me.
The online explaination of the card looked like the categories were capped. At $2000 per quarter for 5% catagories. Still listed the $25 though. Even with that, as a card for restaurants on the quarters that Freedom and Discover do not have that category, this would be nice. Being a no AF card, it is not bad, even considering the changes you mention. I just might do this.
Are you in a state which has US Bank? I heard that they don't offer cash+ online/on phone

Where is that online explanation? Just want to see!

It is on the website for us bank. Www.usbank.com/credit-cards/cash-plus-signature.html
Thanks, I hadn't seen that before, wonder if it is new. So capped at $100 per quarter on all 5% spending. That is a huge downgrade
