US Bank Cash +

What is the consensus on getting this card with US Bank? I think I have read they are conservative lender. Would Chase Freedom be easier to get than this card?

Re: US Bank Cash +

Both US Bank and Chase have prequal pages that can give you a much better idea of your odds. Chase Freedom is a 5/24 Card so be aware of that.

I’m like 20/24 with my most recent card 1 month before the app, and like 4 cards in the 6 months before the app, and I was approved for the US Bank Cash+. Most apps go to manual review. You’ll likely want/need to recon the SL. Mine was $500, recon changed that to $10,000.
Kind of have everything I want now, creditwise. Undeliberately gardening until I have some spending to do and find a 100,000 Amex Platinum offer lol

Re: US Bank Cash +

I got both cards a few years ago. I expect the cash+ is probably about as stringent with applicants as the freedom, but of course if you have 5 or more cards in the last 24 months your odds of getting the cash+ are probably infinitely better than getting the freedom.

Re: US Bank Cash +

Do you have a deposit/checking account with US Bank?  They favor customers with existing relationships.   As a matter of fact, I was pre-approved for the Cash+ when I was signing up for checking account.   At the time they had a nation wide welcome bonus for new checking/savings accounts.

To answer your question about new accounts/INQs, US Bank manually reviews most credit card apps.  New accounts are flagged.  I am not sure how far back they consider new accounts or how many would be too many.   One more thing, US Bank uses FICO TU-04 Bankcard enhanced for account maintance. (At least as a couple of years ago).  Your TU-04 BE score can be very different from a FICO 08/09 score.

Re: US Bank Cash +

I'll confirm that they're still using TU 04 and the vast majority of credit card applications are not instant approvals.  It's going to vary by profile, but for me being LOL/24 had no impact when I spoke to underwriting.  Obviously someone with a thinner profile may not have as much luck.  I was one of the group that got $500 starting lines, and a quick call had that at $15,000 the next day.  I was able to point out that my average credit line was nearly $20,000 and that $500 would be completely unusable for me.

Re: US Bank Cash +

Well, maybe I will stop in and open an account and see what happens. I will also need to check TU04 and see how it looks. Last month it was 645. I will check again at the end of this month.

Re: US Bank Cash +

Also is the checking account a hard pull as well? You said there was a preapproval when you opened a checking account.

Re: US Bank Cash +

I suspect all that isn't necessary for the cash+. I live in Texas, there's not a US Bank branch in my whole state. It wasn't even available to apply online at the time and everyone said you could only apply in branch...but I was successfully able to apply over the phone with no history with them.

Reason I bring this up is if they were more exclusive about this card, I doubt they'd issue it to a guy who doesn't even live in a state with a branch for a card that you couldnt even apply for online at the time. Your score's lower than mine was though.
