@xenon3030 I completely agree! We are credit addicts over here .
@longtimelurker This is great stuff! I wouldn't be in a hurry to convert to UK Amex, we will still maintain a virtual mailbox in the states. Plus getting a UK credit score is going to be trickyc while it's still Experian, Equifax, and Transunion, it's basically a new profile for us there. I will be getting paid in GBP and have contemplated that as well. I think I will try to spilt some between a US and UK bank, we'll see how my employer will feel! But yes, Wise is looking very appealing.
I suspect that declining to pay in US dollars but rather in GBP should be easy enough to avoid DCC, sneaky trick though!
Yes, the lack of profile sharing is a problem, I experienced it the other way many years ago coming from the UK to the US. (But, I didn't have an extensive UK credit profile anyway, having been mainly a student!) Eventually a UK credit card would be good-to-have, we found a few sites (online) that didn't take US credit cards or US paypal, but that was pretty rare, and Amazon UK works well!
Might have to qualify that last part with "as long as it's not Visa," as it appears Amazon UK is going to nix it soon.
Hopefully OP can get Amex Global Transfer going quickly to at least help with the new credit profile even if the rewards aren't quite as good.
@K-in-Boston Yes, this will be interesting with Amazon UK. We have the Amazon US store card and I'm kinda hoping that it will be "usable".
I will definitely be looking into that!
