Except in Japan, a lot of the locals were using a chipped card.

In Sweden and Denmark; chip and pin was the primary mode of payment. The airport atm accepted our debit card using the magnetic strip and we picked up some currency there. Local pubs etc did not have the ability to read our mag strip card but we had currency so no big deal. amex and mastercard were most widely accepted. I used my PRG at the airport and at the volvo factory with no issue.

This is a great reason to get a card with USAA
