USAlliance Visa Signature Rewards Redemption Change

Hi All,

It appears that USAlliance has changed their terms for rewards redemption in the form of statement credit and direct deposit to USAlliance checking account.  This change appears to have been made on the hush-hush.  There was no notice of this change on my statements.  In fact, their website still lists the old redemption terms on the cc advertising page.  I'm seeing the new terms in the CURewards site, which is the site for redeeming rewards.

Was: 2500 points in 2500 point increments

Is Now: 5000 points rounded down to the nearest dollar

Each point is valued at $0.01.

While I don't like the change, it's not a deal breaker for me at the current 3% cashback level.  It will become a deal breaker once the card reverts to 2% cashback.  This is supposed to happen at the end of 2022 unless they extend it again.

I don't have enough points to check (after redeeming last statement) but this could be better in some situations, e.g. can we now redeem 5100 points for $51?   That would be a big improvement, assuming you can get to the $50 threshold

I will try it out early next month and let everyone know.

Points post with statements, so I also need to wait a couple more weeks.

I agree.  That part of the change is an improvement.

Do you prefer the old or new redemption? Does you answer change if the card was a 2% card?

Once (if) it becomes a 2% card I wasn't planning to use with the old redemption method ($25 increments are not user friendly) and I wouldn't use it with the new version with a $50 threshold as I have other 2% cards with no threshold.

However....    when it became 2% in Feb 2021, I had tried to get that last statement to give me a reward balance of exactly $25 (so I could redeem and SD the card for ever!)  With this, I don't have to be quite so exact, and so long as I have more than 5000, the most I lose is 99 points

Re: USAlliance Visa Signature Rewards Redemption Change

I contacted the CU via secure message about the fact that the new reward terms don't match their advertising.  Their response was as follows.

"We are working with our rewards vendor on this issue, we will get back to you as soon as possible."

I'm speculating, but it seems like the rewards vendor may have made the change without the CU's approval or knowledge.

They restored the 2500 point minimum and they replaced the 2500 point increments with nearest whole dollar rounded down.  I was able to redeem 7200 points for 72 dollars.  This is an improvement!

+ 1, ^^^

Yes they now show $25 as minimum, and you only have to leave < $1 on the table.

Just received my monthly $

It is an improvement.
