Hi all, I've got a slight frustration lol.
I'm sock drawering some cards as their 0% promotion has run out, but I've got some rewards on them that I want to use.. $15 on Discover and $8 on Barclay. On my Capital One I'm able to apply rewards to my statement no matter the amount, but Discover has a minimum of $50 and Barclay, $10.. Does this mean I have to spend more money on them to be able to redeem my rewards?
Cause that isnt very cool. Any way to get around this ? How do you use rewards?
You could use the Discover during the next 5% promo (gas, or the online sales in the next one) and get the rewards to $20, then cash in one of the gift cards. Their car rentals seem to be of decent value. I used the Enterprise $40-for-$20 offer.
I second on Discover It giftcard. They have some decent deals on those such as $20 for $25 banana repub or American Eagle. You can just cash in by doing so.
I believe Discover can be used for Amazon purchases in any amount - you need to register your Discover card into the Amazon profile and when you buy just select the rewards option. Never done it myself but I believe it showed me this option. Good luck ![]()

Forgot about that option. Never used it myself either.
I can confirm that you can indeed use it for Amazon purchases no matter the amount. You just have to use other gift cards or use the Discover to pay the remainder of the balance as you cannot use the Discover cash back with another credit card. I beleve it cannot be used for digital download purchases however, only physical purchases.

This is a common annoying problem. I had something like $24.44 in rewards on my Amex BCE which is S/D. Had to put a purchase at a lower rate than on other cards to get to $25 (and being Amex, the reward doesn't show till the following bill cycle closes).
Capital One really doesn't get enough recognition for its No Hassle redemption policy.
As others mentioned, you can liquidate the Discover balance via Amazon.
The Barclays one would need $2 to top it off, or $200 in spend. You can decide if getting your 8 bucks is worth the hassle.
Other minimum redemption cards to watch out for are BoA 1-2-3 rewards, AMEX BCE, and Chase Freedom. I also hate this practice!
