What are the best "circumstances" to be in for CLI?

I am looking to ask for a CLI on a couple of accounts.
1. Is it better to have a low balance (so not to seem needy?), or does balance matter?
2. Is it better to have an increased score (from when you applied?)?

I know sometimes the CLI is hit or miss, I just want to optimize my try.

Thanks.

PS. the 2 accts are Juniper AA card, and Home Depot (both are paid down below 9%, but I only have a short history with both - 3 to 4 months, and score has dropped 24 pts because of utilization last month)

Yes, and yes!  Especially the low utilization one.

I doubt you will get it on Juniper.  I don't think they do cardholder-initiated CLIs, but they review every 6 months or so.

Good luck!

HomeDepot / Citi is very generous with CLI. Try that first.

Thanks Cheddar, I assumed as much about the Juniper card, may try the Home depot (just looked online and they said they will do a pull, so the credit score may be more important than the balance...hmmm do I waste in inq?)

Thanks!

I am not sure Citi would do hard inq for CLI. I though most of them are soft at Citi, unless you are asking for very large amount of CLI. I could be wrong, others in the forum might have better answer on this.

Wait until 6 months on Junny-
They do do Customer requested CLI's - if nothing is there for the CSR they call the credit department.

On the CLI form at the bottom it says...

"By submitting this form, you authorize Citibank (South Dakota), N.A. to check your credit history."

So I don't know, I would think soft pull...but?

That was my first thought...we will see, I am planning on doing this to help my util, but have to wait until everything reports and get the score bump...
