Any amount of $20K is high to me!

Unless you're Bill Gates, I think this would be high for anyone!

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

As a 22 year old working a part time job making ~ 13k a year, my amex has a 9k limit.

I'd say that's pretty high.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

For me personally, I would say a $10K limit is high, anything below that not so much.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

Truthfully, it’s all relative !

Have to take into consideration why it’s important in the first place. At the end of the day it’s about what or why it matters. Prestige, conversation topic or actual need ? or has it become just a game ?

After going through a job loss, divorce and a BK a few years back, nobody would even give me a secured credit card. Started again with a couple of Capital One $200 cards and I was on top of the world with my $400 total available credit. Charging and making 3-4 payments a week for a few months I started getting cli’s. Fast forward a couple of years and now I have over $200K in available credit with my highest being Dinners Club $30K.

Now it’s to the point of applying just to see if I would get it and asking for cli's just to see how far they’ll go….lol. It’s not about how high the limits are but how you manage those limits. Do the right thing, pay on time every time and high limits will come looking for you without you even asking. No matter what you’ll get or have, you will always outgrow it and will want more….it's human nature !

Less than $1500 = Toy limits

$1500 - $9,999 = Normal limits

$25,001 - $50,000 = Huge limits

$50,001 on up = Insane limits.

Well, thats my own scale that I just made up 30 seconds ago. But now that I've posted it to the Internet, it must be true.

But its only valid for personal credit cards Smiley Wink So, the next time somoene says they have a credit card with a $80,000 limit, you will know to reply "Wow, thats Insane!"

Okay, you made me laugh out loud. lol For me, I think 5000 is good. However, if I plan a big spend 10,000 and above is great to keep utilization below a certain point. I personally like 12,000 to 15,000 so that a 3000 charge is not over 24%.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

Anything 25k+ I consider "great".

10-25k is decent.

I honestly don't see the reason for high CLs except for scoring/utilization purposes.

I put 5-6k/month on my cards. As long as my CL allows me to float each month without caring about hitting any limits while reporting decent utilization then I'm good.

I don't consider Amex limits to be real since it's unlikely they'd let you charge up to 30k or whatever without setting off the FR alarm.

Re: What do you guys consider a high limit.

Before really getting into the game, aka 3 months ago, I thought a high limit card was maybe $5k or $10k. And anything over $20k was really up there.

Now I'd say for fair credit a high limit card would be $5k, for good credit $20k or $30k, and for excellent credit $50k. Disover, anything over 10k.

I am saying these numbers based upon my score history, myfico, family, and friends. I have realized quite a few people I know have BOA cards with $30k limits. Tons are getting 15-20k ventures. Tons have 15k-20k Amex. Its rare you see someone with a 50k card in their signature.

After being reminded here numerous times that except for capital one, super high limits are only good for utilization and future high limits on other accounts (cap1 being the only lender to let people max out that actually start to have a few cards with high util).

I just want super low util so I don't have to worry about what gets reported when.

Honestly. i used to think 5k was a high limit which has changed over time. for me now. i would say 25k is a high limit. since i don't have any limits at 25kSmiley Embarassed
