@SarahJo wrote:I adore my PenFed PCR for the 2% cashback...it does have increments for redeeming, but you can add multiple $5/$10/$25/etc. to your "cart" to get as close as possible to redeem the benefit cash. Found that out in a happy accident! As for strictly 1.5%, Cap1 Qucksilver for ease and promptness of redemption, hands down.
The downfall is you're stuck with their checking account (either by converting your DD or storing $500 in there), or you have to be military, otherwise, it's 1.5% back. I'd rather have the C.O Quicksilver over the Penfed Cash Rewards... And then you have to ride with training wheels while Penfed takes 10 days to apply your $500 payment to your credit card. No thanks.
I utilize their checking account. 10 days to apply a CC payment? The available balance on the CC updates instantly after a payment, pior to it even clearing whether it's $10 or $3000...
My experience has been the same as yours, Sarah Jo. I've had a PenFed checking account and PenFed credit cards for 25 years with no problems. Let me add, however, that my experience is limited to paying the PenFed card from PenFed checking, so I don't know what it would be like to pay the card from an outside checking account.
Just wanted to provide a data point...I just made a payment from an external checking account (local CU), and the available CC balance updated immediately ;-)

I see no one has mentioned the NFCU member mall. Besides 1.5 cash back it’s realley easy to get at least an additional 2% plus, when shopping online. So I’ll go with NFCU.
Credit card malls for cashback (with the exception of Discover sometimes) are rarely the best cashback available. Check cashbackmonitor.com (which doesn't list NFCU so maybe....) and see what is available, usually with any credit card.

I have a Chase Unlimited Freedom ($4500 CL, got it a few months ago). It has 1.5%, I chose this one because at the time my EX score was by far my best and I found out that Chase only pulled from EX in my state. I was very surprised with the initial limit of $4500, a month earlier Cap One only gave me a $300 CL.
In a few months of use I've gotten about $35 in cash back, plus a $150 bonus for spending over $500 in my first 3 months. I'm satisfied with this card for now until I purchase a condo and car this summer/fall. The. I will apply for either a Citi or Discover card.. have to do more homework on them, but I have heard lots of good things about Discover from a guy from work.
I pay off the full balance of my Chase Unlimited Freedom, I use it like a debit card.. thanks Chase for the free $185 and credit score jump!
I would have to agree with Freedom besides the FTF. Otherwise, NavyFed Cash Rewards or Capital One Quicksilver are the best 1.5% cash back cards... At least when you're picking from major or well known organizations/corporations.

I really like airline portals (the hotel ones seem pretty mediocre), and occasionally Discover offers a nice bonus.
But, to expand on a point I made earlier...anyone who's happy with a 1.5% cash card in the first place might reasonably prefer the convenience and guaranteed value of a CC issuer's shopping portal over an airline's.

I picked up a Discover before going after the CSP. I couldn't be happier with it. If you play your cards right (no pun intended), that first year gets you 10% cash back. Customer service is superb, too. I can't really figure out when it's best to request a CLI from Discover, but I'm happy with my 6K SL for now. Love the FU, too - my first Chase card. But, I'll be using it now just to rake in UR points
Addressing the original question, I like:
I've looked into 2% products, and I haven't found one that's a good fit for me. Everything I look at has some kind of glitch that I don't want to deal with. PenFed has the aforementioned training wheels. Citi DC is likely to come in with a limit that's too low. And after dealing with Synchrony once and closing the card, I don't want to deal with them again.
