It varies, but several people have been successfull getting a $1 balance to post, while others have had a $1 balance wiped out. Same with $2, $3, $4. 

Doctor of Credit recommends a $5 balance every month. I think if you're trying to anaylze the BBR this much, you're wasting time. I put my $9.99 a month Netflix charge on it, and have it autopay three days before the due date. It's a no-brainer.

I don't think you need to post a balance as long as you use the account monthly.

From the terms and conditions:

Earn a $25 cash reward each calendar quarter when you pay more than the minimum payment by your due date each and every month of the calendar quarter. To be eligible for the quarterly cash rewards, your account must remain open and in good standing and you must have a balance on your account OR use your card every billing cycle of every month in the calendar quarter.
