Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

I carry my Discover and a debit card. I have no need for anything else.

Wait!!!! That doesn't add up to 5.  Smiley Mad

Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

I only carry a wallet that has an id holder on one side and the other side has two card slots.... so, in my wallet currently there is:

1) BankAmericard signature Visa

2) Amex Plat (work/travel)

If I had to choose only 5 to have in total, it would be these:

1) BankAmericard signature Visa

2) Amex Plat

3) NFCU MC

4) British Airways Signature Visa (Chase- yea, yea, i know...)

5) UBS Signature Visa (great service and worldwide offices)

Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

General note: a lot of specific posts started popping up about the American Express Costco card, and the thread showed signs of rambling OT. No charges of thread-jacking here, as the first questions were by the OP, and two mods (ahem) pitched in. Smiley Very Happy

But at any rate, posts by Kiwill, LynetteM, and elaine829 are now on this thread:

Assorted questions about the AmEx Costco card (split off from other thread)

Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

I actually just finished trimming my lines a few months back - down from 12 accounts to 5.  I didn't really feel like I could give that many cards the usage they deserved, and managing them all was certainly a hassle; in that respect, even 5 may be too many for me.  Anyway:

Schwab Invest First Visa

Ameriprise World Elite MC

Discover Escape

Chase Sapphire Visa

Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards AmEx

Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

The cards I have that I like the most...

Discover More
US Bank Platinum

Compass Platinum

Alliant Platinum
Simmons Platinum

I would like to have PenFed... sometime later this year once I become a member.

Thanks to all that have contributed to all the forums here at MyFico.
2 years ago my fico scores were in the upper 400's, and now with educating myself, diligent work to correct mistakes, and taking advice from here and a few other sources, I'm now residing in the mid 700's and I hope to reach 800 later this year.

Thank you,

Phil

Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

In my specific situation, the following lineup would probably be of highest benefit to me:

Schwab Visa (Fidelity Amex would also fit here) (2% everywhere)
Citi Driver's Edge Options (effective 6% on Gas, Grocery, and Pharmacy)
Discover More (5% categories)
Penfed Gas Cash (5% gas)
Citi Forward (5 TY at restaurants)

I have the first three. I was denied for the Penfed and haven't tried for the Forward.

There are other scenarios where a miles card such as the Citi AAdvantage or American Express Platinum could be of benefit.

Re: What's in your wallet/purse, which 5 cc's would you choose

Today I'm carrying:

BofA debit card (because there's a BofA ATM in the lobby of my office building)

Addison Ave. FCU debit card (in case I need cash & the BofA ATM is out of service)

PenFed Visa

Amazon.com Visa (issued by Chase)

The CC mix changes over the course of the month as statement cycles end. In a week, I'll replace the Amazon.com Visa with an EmigrantDirect MasterCard (issued by Barclays) - right after the end of the MasterCard statement cycle.
