Re: What was your first credit card?

On my 18th birthday - 15-ish years ago, I got approved for an American Express, I think it was called Blue for Students, but I could be wrong. I know it was a $1,500 credit line. Also on my 18th birthday, I got approved for a credit card through Providian....which got bought by WaMu, and then Chase.

Re: What was your first credit card?

First card was a Wells Fargo Platinum card which I got in 2006 at age 18. Didn't think much about CCs other than I knew it's good to have one to build credit. Got a Chase Freedom in 2011, and cards 3-6 in 2014 and 15 were when I actually started trying to optimize my CC strategy. Only about 10 years after I opened the WF card did I realize how useless it is and now I wish I'd gotten a Discover instead, at least now it'd be useful as an It - which incidentally is a card I am planning to open later this year lol.

Re: What was your first credit card?

The same here!!!! Applied for it in store for and got randomly approved for 400, with out having any previous credit history. 6 months later I got a random CLI to 600.

Re: What was your first credit card?

Tie: Sears and JCPenney store cards. Got both the same day. This was way back when neither store actually took Visa/MC/Amex and Discover didn't even exist yet (1983). This was followed by a bunch of gas station cards (again most didn't accept MC/Visa yet). My first "real" card was a Citibank master charge card a couple of years later, now long deceased.

Re: What was your first credit card?

Back in 1998, my first card was an MBNA Visa affiliated with my school's alumni association.  I think it started off with a $500 CL and I eventually got it up to $11K before declaring BK in 2005.
