When to ask for retention offer?

Slightly before the AF hits?  Or slightly after?  Which is optimal?

Thanks.

I've read that most seem to have success once the annual fee actually post. Kinda hard to haggle for something that you haven't been charged for yet.

Re: When to ask for retention offer?

In general, the best time to do it is when you are seriously considering closing the account and a retention offer is what will keep you from closing it.

If you get denied a retention offer and have no problem closing the account afterward, then you know it's the right time to go for it.
