We are rebuilding credit. I have 10 months credit history & have Discoverit ($3000 limit)
Spouse has 3 years credit history w/ Discoverit ($5000) and Capital One ($500).
No other debts/loans/mortgage.
I could go for Captal One but based on above expect credit limit will be low.
Any better bets with very good approval odds?
Are you rebuilding from a bankruptcy or other low score, or building from new? That will matter.
Hows your profile overall? Any closed accounts, open loans, old derogs, how many inquiries, income? All of that will help us help you. Also, do you know your FICO scores from all three bureaus? Different lenders pull different scores.
What card to get next is really a question only you can answer, as it matters what you spend your money on and how much you spend in certain categories. It also depends on whether or not you like cash back or if you're a traveler that sees value in points/travel redemptions. If you provide more information you will get some better informed responses.
Also just because someone else has a $500 CL card from Cap One doesn't mean that they only give out small limits. That limit was given to that profile, so a different limit could be given on your profile. As the first reply stated above, you've really got to take a look at your overall credit profile when considering cards/lenders.
2013 was a horrible year, no bankruptcy, but walked away from debt. All derogatories have now expired and don't show on credit report.
Employed. $55,000 annual household income. Keep cc balance below 20%.
770 is "FICO® Score 8 based on TransUnion® data"
Just 1 card is a thin credit profile - so looking for card/ways to make it thicker.
Prefer cashback cards, possibly airline points (for when the world opens back up), but still on Amex blacklist..

I would say Chase Freedom or Freedom Unlimited, Citi Double Cash, PenFed Power Cash, and AOD Visa Signature might be worth looking at.
This is a post with a list of companies that will do a soft pull preapprovals. Some might be better than others, and if you're blacklisted by a company it might not show on the pre-approval. The list may help you with who would give you an offer without using some uncessary hard pulls and getting a decline. Remember CapOne will do a triple pull if you apply. If you're in good standing with Chase, I would try their prequalification, they are number 17 on the list.

You mentioned past derogatories. So, besides AmEx, were there any other lenders who were burned/unpaid? This will matter in a variety of cases since some lenders will blacklist for a very long time, regardless if they're no longer displayed on your reports.
One of my daughters after a year with a Discover got the Citi Double cash card.
Another had two years with a CU card and her second card was the Bank of the West Cashback.
Both had lower income than you, however thin, clean history.
I would say wait another 6-9 months and go for a card a step up from the Cap One.
Just a couple of thin file data points, wort whatever !
