If the Experian score in your signature is accurate you need to wait to apply for any American Express card. It needs to be about 100 points higher and you need to get your inquiries way down
+1

Credit cards are harder so if you are on the boaderline start with charge, to show your trust worthy, 680+ EX fico and 6+ month history with a major credit card and good income.
This is true. I have found their ED and Delta Gold to be the easiest to get.
I will say reading this thread that the Delta Gold was one of the easier ones, that makes sense, seeing as how they approved me for 3 cards in 5 weeks!!!
I had scores 40 points lower than what I have now. Inqs were TU-7 Eq-2 EX-6.
Just be sure you take advantage of the inquiry when you do apply. If your income supports it, go for both credit and charge. Also, I have found it very helpful for family and friends to check the amex prequal site often. Click around on the card you want the most. This has caused 2 people I know (with scores below 700) to receive mailers, and the longer they wait, the better the promotion. Everyday is 10k points redeemable for 50 dollars in amex gift cards, 100 in regular gift cards, or actually $200 worth of travel after 1k spend. You could get either 15 or 25k points for either the ED or EDP.
If you can afford the spend of 1k and another 1k, then double app and go for the PRG. Just cancel it in 51 weeks to avoid the 195 annual fee. Or downgrade it to one with lower/no annual fee.

Well I apped like an idiot for bce with a 645 at the time and was denied due to credit score. I now have a 708 ex score and I'm too afraid to try.
There is no reason to be afraid. Depending on how long ago you apped. if you go here to amex application status. if the info you apped for is no longer there. you would be good to go.

I got approved for a Green and a BCP with an 695 Ex and I have a negative past history with them.
Also, like many others here, I applied for both cards on the same day, and only took one HP, but of course as always YMMV.

I have a 6+ year old unpaid judgement though.😔
If you have a good Ex score, I don't think it will matter. I was approved in April for mine, and I have two unpaid COs that won't fall off until Spring 2016.
(Also, I had a BK7 in 2000 and Amex was included... it's not on my credit report, but they did remember - it's the reason they used to decline my 61-day CLI.)
I think you're good if you want it. It seems that the credit score is the primary thing they look at.
