hello all,
again I have learned alot from everyone here, I greatly appreciate it.
I myself am rebuilding 1 year in on a Ch. 13. My file will take patience as I do have.
Anyway, this question/topic concerns my wife. Her credit file is 10 months long.
$300 RC Willey store card reports revolving. 9 months/ reporting 20%,but will report at 0% Mar.7 ( they want to raise our credit limit, but requires a HP, not sure if worth it,,, we do need new laundry machines.lol)
$500 Cap. Platinum Unsecured. 3 months/ reporting 21%, but will report at 0% Mar.7
$300 Discover It Secured. 2 monts/ reporting at 5%
Never late
We just tried the prequal sites and boom, first time Amex came back with Gold Delta Skymiles/35,000 bonus
and Citi preapproved for the Citi Double Cash Card.
Unfortunatly, Chase didn't match any preapprovals, I expected this as I'm learning that they like 12+ months history.
So we are at 3/24, we'd like to try for a chase card soon, so we are thinking of applying for one of the above.
by everyones experience, which could I benefit more from? CLI's,points, etc?
Thanks Everyone
Also,
Would it be wise to apply for the cards that showed preapproved?
Or, could we apply for another card that they offer?
Does the AMEX fit your lifestyle? Do you, or are you flying quite a bit on Delta that the $95 annual fee is worthwhile? If not, my suggestion would be to get the Double Cash and wait for six months, then see what comes up. Unless you really want Chase, in that case I would do nothing for the next six months then app for whatever you actually want.
The Citi is a good one to have for the 1+1% cashback for general spend, plus Price Rewind or whatever it is for larger purchases. Delta Gold is meh, Plat and Reserve are better due to the companion tickets and other benifits if you want a travel card. I second the first poster, it might be wise to wait it out and try to get better scores for better pre-quals. Wait for that payment to go through and update, then re-run your pre-quals after the FICO scores update.
Good Luck!
The Amex Gold bonus is usually much higher than 35k. I would skip the pre-approval and try incognito or do a dummy booking on Delta site to get a higher offer to show up if you get that card.
Also just because Citi is just showing you a certain card in their pre-approval doesnt' mean they won't approve you for other cards. Same with Amex. Find the Amex or Citi card you want the most and apply for that.
Chase will be a flat out no if you have a BK on your file. I'm not sure about Amex, but they may deny too. I find it strange that the pre-approvals even came up while you are in a payment plan.
Not sure what state you are in, but I think most require trustee approval for any new credit. Might want to check on this first.

This pertains to my wife's file, she is not on the BK.
Thanks
Oh okay, I did not catch that. I've been told if the Amex has a single APR showing and they don't show you a range then the pre-approval is pretty solid.
I had a Cap One Journey and Platinum as my first two cards, nurtured those for a while and then got the Citi DC offer in the mail. It was my go-to for a long time, I really like it. The phone app is super easy to use and when you make a payment, that amount is immediately credited back to your card. That was super nice since my SL was $700. I've only received $500 CLI since opening. While not high, I believe building that history over the course of 2 years helped with my higher limit on my newest card, CSP at $8200.
Was there any SUB with the DC? Like the 18 month 0% BT/$0 fee? That could bode well for your situation. In mine, they shortened the SUB to like 6 months I think, but it was nice to have.
Like others have said though, do you travel enough to justify the Delta Amex Gold? Do you live in a Delta/Delta Feeder Hub? And I just got an offer for 60k/$2k spend for Amex Delta Gold...i'll hold off since I just got the CSP, but maybe you should as well for a better offer. They had a 75k offer last year.
On side note, you should look into PC her Platinum to Quicksilver. I think I was just wandering this site regarding intro cashback cards, and stumbled upon a link that went straight to a Cap One upgrade site. No HP. I'll try to find it. Better to take the PC and start earning cash back rather than open up a new account. I went from 1%-1.25% cashback on the Journey to a flat 1.5% cashback on the Quicksilver.
Good luck!
