This is right - but I don't care about score as much as reducing the APR on this big balance. We have become pretty good at operating on a cash basis, and I don't have any immediate need for other new credit, so looking to score a single card to BT this high APR debt onto and then pay it off as aggressively as possible. Thus really just asking what BT cards are out there and what score I need to qualify. in 12-15 months these will all be 0 balance with then 36 months of good history (hopefully!!!).

Your situation will be vastly improved once the baddies are removed, the bal on Lowes is paid down and you are removed from Discover.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Agreed

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: Would love a BT, low to mid 600s

Not to be a debbie downer, but I was denied with ute at 50 percent. I was denied due to baddies I can prove I no longer owe and utilization. Chase had no prequalified offers, but I could not get the shopping cart to work anywhere so perhaps they may work for you. I don't think you will get enough to make a BT worth it though. Seems Chase is kind of gun shy.

Best I can tell you is to keep plugging away on your balances and getting the baddies off. I feel your pain here.

Re: Would love a BT, low to mid 600s

Well, now its just the waiting game, I guess. So frustrating!

I asked my Mom to throw me on her Amex as an AU. 23k limit, 4k balance, Member since 1986. Holy backdating batman!

So at this point, when the collections come off, Im off discover, on Amex, Lowes paid down, I will have 1 co, 3 installments which are all clean, and 2 revolving with a 17% util. Should be slightly better than 1co, 2 colections, and 101% util. lol.

At that point I am going to join NFCU, do the BT, and off to the garden.

Re: Would love a BT, low to mid 600s

Sorry but Amex will not backdate her year for you. Unless you were a primary Amex cardmember in 1986, your year will be 2013.

Re: Would love a BT, low to mid 600s

Bummer - that would have been amazing.

Actually, I did hold an amex in the mid 90s. It was supposed to be a corporate card, but I remember it was on my personal credit. That company was shady, laid me off and didn't pay them and I think they tried to come after me for a while. I held another corp amex in the mid 2000s for a different company. That one also reported to my personal credit, but didn't report a limit so it always looked like I was maxed, and I traveled for business alot. I now hold one for a 3rd company, and this time its not reporting on my personal credit, but the did hard pull me when I had to apply for it.

anyway thanks for all of the input!

Re: Would love a BT, low to mid 600s

Thought I would update:

- Thought EX was looking good enough to try for Amex BCP. Apparently I was mistaken! Denied and quoted a score of 645 on Ex, but I don't know if thats real fico or AMEX.

- Decided to get off my a$$ and apply to NFCU. Got all of my eligibility ducks in a row, got enrolled. Logged into the account online, and went to "My Offers" and it said I was pre-qualed for their Cash card. Apped, and instant approval for 25k. Fell right the @#%^ out of my chair.

- Actually reviewed the cards they offered and decided to change this to the Platinum card for the 7.9% rate. This is in process. When complete I will BT everything. Its not 0 but darn better than 25 or whatever rate discover has had us pinned down with. Once the balance transfer is complete, will apply for flagship, and will use that for all monthly bills, PIF.

- Decided to get a Walmart card for the free FICO. Approved for the store card @ 600. Called in, asked for 10k was given 5k.

- Next up is an Auto loan, then off to the garden.

Super Kudos to the board for all of the help!

Re: Would love a BT, low to mid 600s

Congratulations! NFCU is very generous and I'm sure this will help with the BT.
Keep up the good work and Amex won't be far off.
