This is not a post about the best card for rewards back on car rentals, but merely the best card to use for the insurance aspect. I was reading an article where someone was talking about the nightmare they went through with MC when they tried to get reinmbursement for damage to a rental car and I am looking to hear from people who actually have had an issue with their rental car and how the different insurances worked for them.
Thankfully I have never had to go through damage, but when I rent cars, I put it on an Amex. Amex doesn't offer primary coverage on its own, but it's an optional service you sign up for. There is a one-time fee per rental (not per day). $24.95 for up to 45 days - and for lucky California residents like myself, the fee is $17.95. That not only provides primary insurance but covers vehicles many "primary insurance" cards don't, and has more generous coverage.
Also, whatever card you go with, it's still a really good idea to check in with your own car insurance company also.

Yes it is, but its one thing that the card says it gives insurance. Its quite another when you actually have to make a claim and how the process goes. I do vaguelly recall someone being happy about how the amex insurance handled things and I think someone had a positive experience with a visa signature insurance.
