Re: how many capital one cards can you have?

I have a Cap One secure that is not reporting yet (email says it's on the way). I had to pay $200 deposit. My CK score was 566 when I was approved 2 weeks ago. Since then my new $500 limit credit union secured card has starting reporting and my new CK score is 605. CK Reviews says the average score approved for the Cap One unsecured Classic Visa is 599. That's why I believe I could only initially get the Cap one secured. My score was too low. Now that I'm 605 (above 599), thanks to a huge score increase,  I think I can get unsecured Classic. My denial letter when I applied for unsecured before applying for secured said my EXP was only 526, far below the 599 approval average. My new EXP according to myFICO is 581, closer to the average. I have only 4 inquiries within the last 2 years. I think I should try unsecured again now and I would be approve. Is it too soon?

Re: how many capital one cards can you have?

I chatted online with a customer rep named Christopher.  He said you cant apply for 30 days if just applied and you can have up to 5 accounts.  Here is our conversation:

Glad to hear that you are one of our exiting customers. You can certainly apply for unsecured credit card with us. However, once you've applied for a Capital One credit card, regardless if it is approved or denied, you may not be eligible for an approval for another Capital One credit card within the next 30 days; therefore we encourage you to wait for at least 30 days before applying for another Capital One credit card.

soloman

What makes you not eligible for 30 days?

Christopher

it's a Capital One bank policy and conditions. One can't apply for two credit card accounts within 30 days.

soloman

Ok I understand. How many credit card accounts can a person have with Cap one?

Christopher

You can have multiple credit card accounts (up to 5 accounts).

soloman

Thank you.

Christopher

You're welcome.

What he's telling you is contrary to what's on their website. At the bottom of the application for the secured card, or any of their average credit or rebuilding cards, it says you're ineligible for that card if you have two or more capital one cards. On their excellent credit cards it says you're ineligible for that card if you have more than 5 capital one cards. I don't  know for sure either way because I've heard claims from both sides of the fence but the CSR and the website cant both be right I don't think. Maybe the apps just haven't been updated.

Re: how many capital one cards can you have?

5 is the max total people including legacy cards. Such as orchard and hsbc that were converted into cap 1.

the others are co branded cards. Such as playstation sony card and gm card.

So simple 2 regular cap 1s. 2 co branded and 1 legacy. or 2 regs. 2 legacy and 1 co branded. its not that hard. but who the hell in their right mind would want 5 cap 1 cards. co branded or not. and with a 605 to be honest. you have  a long way to go to get approved for anything good. so just wait it out. and improved your credit. that is a long way from being good credit. but at least you are going in the right direction.

Re: how many capital one cards can you have?

I am not proud of this but thought I would share how many cap1 cards I have.

I have 4 platium mc's opened 3 to 4 years ago when I was rebuilding. Cap1 would only approve me and they were the ones I burned in the first place. Anyways, i managed those cards very good and was able to convert them to qs 1 rewards and they each have a limit of 3.5k. The annual fee can not be removed permanently, but they will reverse it yearly. The accounts can also go no further, some people can convert a plat mc to plat mc qs no annual fee world mc, my cards will not play that game.

After wasting time online via chat's with cap 1 I accepted those cards are socked drawered and ill use them to just keep them active. I have much  better cards now, BOA cash rewards, freedom, amex, sallimae etc.... Cap 1 has better offers to u once they neec you more than you need them.

So i chat up a rep. on the site as a cardseeker looking for the journey visa, which I was not going to apply for. Some how she mentioned to me that I should not apply for the journey but see if one of my other cap 1 cards I had mentioned to here that I have, are upgradeable. I said I wish. She asked me a few questions and told me she highly recommended I check the prequal site. Mind you, I checked it earlier that day and nothing, nor have I ever been prequaled before on any site.

So i do it and poof, three great offers.... I decide to pull the trigger and app for ventureone, instant 5k approval and QS Visa, instant 3k approval, reconed to 6k visa signature after i recieved the card.

So I have 6 cap 1 cards, which is too many but I plan on slowly closing three of the rebuilder cards and keeping the oldest one open. I gotta say one more thing, calling cap 1 as a visa signature customer instead of using the PLAT MC numbers on the card  is like night and day with the customer service. Also, the ventureone card is tacky as hell but I love it in a weird guady way. It backs up as a great mirror if my iphone is dead.

So we were all wrong, I guess. Thanks for sharing that. Nothing to be ashamed about. I like Capital One. I've never had any issues with them. I have 2. A 1.25% CB no hassle rewards card that I've had for almost 5 years and a QS1 that was an orchard and then became a classic platinum and then I pc'd its to a QS1.

Re: how many capital one cards can you have?

I review the terms these days before I apply for things, and the ventureone and qs visa's say you may not be eligible if you have 5 open cards. But, I think its a IMHO kinda thing where eeach person is different.

I am satisfied with cap 1 too., I feel like I will need to close out some cards before I hit an internal lending limit with them and I want the Quick Silver/ VentureOne Sig. Visas to grow with me moving on. Cap 1 makes up about 25k in my available credit, the total availble credit I have is 55k acorss all my cards.. so I have a lot with them lol.

Re: how many capital one cards can you have?

Me too. Even I got everything now. Td bank. Amex. Barclays. Discover. And many more. I will never give up my cap1. I only have 2. Platinum. And quicksilver. But they were first. So my loyalty is with them. Even I only buy couple small things per month now. But I will still pay 19 AF. So they are getting some luv. It is funny when you don't need them anymore. Somehow they seem to know Smiley Happy. Last month cap 1 did 3 soft pulls on me. AR. I don't know why. But I'm sure they're saying. He's not using now. But I'm paid in full.
