Re: military man trying to join the amex family.questions,advice,help.

Mojo, as far as NFCU goes, just go for it man. I was approved in Decemeber for a $7,000 cashrewards card(by far my highest limit at the time, previous was wf visa at $1500), on the same day I opened the account. At the time I only had two open CC's WF(8yo) and Cap1(7mos), overall until was at or above 90%, Two charge offs, and last late pay 01/12, TU 625 EQ 629. And they approved me so I'm sure you're good to go. Three days later I was approved for a 3000 NavChek. And last month I was approved for a Platinum card $3000(to use for BT purposes). Oh and last week I got a car loan for $18,000. Oh and I requested a CLI on the cashrewards card and they bumped me up to $9500, scores were TU 663 and EQ 650 last I checked. And I have baddies, so Dude you're good, just apply Smiley Happy

I see no reason to wait, your report is fine... overall your debt isn't that high compared to your overall credit limits. and Amex is more lenient on their charge card products.

Once you're in and you show them some heavy and responsible usage, then you can get a revolver from them later on if you want.

I picked up the Amex Lowes since most of my business spending is at lowes.  They started me with 22k limit, I never even had to request a CLI.

I like Amex as a spending hog, but you don't ever want to carry a balance on Amex

they will pull either TU or EQ for Navy Fed... and actually they will do two separate pulls..  one for membership and one for the credit card.

If you are on a base, you can go to a branch..  My husband joined while stationed at okinawa, because his ATM card from the states stopped working and he needed to be able to get cash.

The cool thing about NFCU is that your get your military pay 1 day early if using Direct Deposit.

My husband is currently getting his VA disability pay and his Chapter 31 Vocational Rehab benefits direct deposit into our joint sharesSavings account

Re: military man trying to join the amex family.questions,advice,help.

I was contemplating applying for the BCP as well. But it looks like I'm gonna pass on the BCP and go for NFCU, especially since they give such generous CLs.

Do you have to be in the millitary/navy to get the card?

You have to be active duty, or retired military to be eligible for NFCU..

Others ways to get included in membership is if an immediate family member:  Mom, dad, sibling, grandparent is a member.   Be prepared to prove relationship and military status just in case they flag you for a security membership verification.
