non-World Mastercard extended warranty coverage -- any catch ?

While poring over the fine print, I learned that two of my platinum non-world mastercards (USAA and Capital One) offer extended warranty coverage where Extended Warranty doubles the original warranty time period and duplicates the coverage of the original manufacturer's (or U.S. store brand) warranty up to a maximum of twelve months on most items you purchase [quoted from USAA benefits guide].

I was taken aback because I thought this was a feature exclusive to American Express, World Mastercard, and Visa Signature.

Is this too good to be true ? Since this is a feature of just a platinum mastercard, is there any catch (disclosed or undisclosed) ?

And if this extended warranty coverage is identical to that of the USAA World Mastercard, then what is gained by accepting an upgrade to the USAA World Mastercard other than the fact that USAA gets to charge a higher interchange fee to the merchant ?
