So i just received a credit from a dentisty that I've never been to on one of my citi cards. is this an elaborate scam?
You could call them and tell them, and call your card issuer.
Less likely a scam and more likely a screw up... give 'em a ring.... but stay on guard just in case. Obviously don't send anyone the money - let citi handle it unless citi explicitly tells you to to do otherwise. get a new card number issued, obviously.
someone PROBABLY fat fingered a card number for a manual refund.
Anything that shouldnt be on your card should be investigated. Inform Citi asap.

Yes, if you are going to call (and I might not!), contact the issuer rather than the merchant. (They may tell you to talk to the merchant anyway, but probably not)

Notify Citi at once. It's more likely an error than a scam.

This. Call Citi and tell them someone you don't recognize posted a credit back to your account, get the name of the CSR you spoke to and jot it down along with the approximate time you called. I wouldn't bother calling the dentist as that could cause all kinds of confusion.
In the meantime continue to make your payments as if the credit didn't exist.

ah! Yes. Forgot that point. Do that too!
ALL of The Above!!
You would also likely be safe with a secure message on Citi's website, especially if the wait to talk to someone is long.
