I have a Macy's store card that I haven't used in over 2 years. I see no reason to close it (even though the effect will by very minor), so plan to leave it in the sock drawer indefinitely.

I say close it.  Why keep it open if you don't need it?  You can use other cards to shop at Macy's and trust me, I get ALL of the same coupons that my sister gets who actually  has a Macy's charge.

Wow..can't believe I just read someone whining about a 5,000 credit line with AMEX

just like your own credit score, this is a game of fractions and proportions, not dollar amounts
