too soon to apply for major credit card?

Filed for Chpt 7 Bankruptcy four years ago.  Have one open car loan 4 years old and all on time.  One credit card for past three years and no balance.  No other negative entries + long credit history of Paid as Agreed.  Too soon to apply for a major credit card.  If not, which card.

Re: too soon to apply for major credit card?

you could try for a BofA Secured card that graduates, or Wells Fargo Secured.

I would definitely recommend  to go for a secured credit card and it will grow with you over the time.

Re: too soon to apply for major credit card?

although, you could go on mini app spree, and hit Discover, Cap One, maybe Barclays. If denied, go for a secured card.

If you go app wild, hit Barclays first.

Barclay's, I will always have, was good to me.  I had two bankrupticies on my CR's and they (granted I'm very strong as persuasion, don't take no for an answer, and was relentless... doing a Peggy Bundy whine...) gave me my iTunes Visa.  This was a credit analyst in November, 2010 -- after discovering myfico.com. I started with $250.00 line (begged for a chance at $100.00 -- my recon was about 20 minutes... lmao!  I was determined).

Little over two years later that card is only been charged $8.50 interest and that was planned... it's $2500.00 -- I have their Travelocity Amex from August, 2011 and it's at $2,000.00 -- that card is now at 21,700 points (minus 7500 bonus) -- so they will build with you... treat them right.

I really doubt I would have "stood a chance" with NFCU in December, 2012 if I hadn't been so hell bent with that recon in November, 2010... the guy was tired, I would imagine, he kept saying sir... if you reapply, I said I don't need to reapply, I just need a chance... so, be persistent.  Like others, time is a blessing in rebuilding.  My second bankrupty falls off in July, 2012 so by then, hoping Amex let's me in.  To date, four apps in 2012, thats the reason for denial.

Re: too soon to apply for major credit card?

Thanks for all the info.  I already have one CC with 1000.00 limit and use it lightly and pay off each month.  I was hoping someone ahd a magic something that would trigger a new card application OK

Thanks
