trouble with credit card rate terms and conditions

My wife signed up a for a new credit card that was supposed to have 0% apr for balance transfers for 1 year.   After one month they started charging her 9.99%.   She did not keep a copy of the original offer from the credit card.   They are saying she has to provide that to dispute the increase to 9.99%.     She was not late with any payments to cause the increase.   We have tried to call the company to dispute the increase to no avail.   I asked last night to get some kind of documentation from them showing she agreed to the 0% for only one month, but they stated they don't have that information.    They keep stating we need to prove the offer of 0% is valid.   I think it should be their responsibility as well to show why they are charging 9.99% after one month instead of the 0% offer.  Shouldn't the credit card company have some record of the application for the card for 0% for the year?   How can I get them to provide the application sent to the credit department who approved my wife's card?  That should show the percentage rate applied for correct?

Re: trouble with credit card rate terms and conditions

Do you have a statement that shows the interest rate to be 0% on the BT? Are you saying they charged 0% for one month and then RAISED the rate? Is it possible that it was 9.99% from the beginning? I'm just guessing here but I think it is possible that it wasn't 0% from the beginning.

What terms are stated with the card that was sent?

+1

Check your online account if the paper statement was tossed. You should be able to click on the first statement, which is probably in a PDF format.

Maybe it was a 0%-if-you-qualify offer, and she wound up with the 9.99% version.

Re: trouble with credit card rate terms and conditions

The card is with US Bank.     I will check to see if she received anything stating rates with the card, but I don't recall receiving anything like that with previous cards I have received.    I will also have her check her statements on line to see if it was actually zero percent the first month or not.

Any suggestions on how to get them to provide the original terms and conditions from the company.    They don't seem to want to provide that.    It's possible they made an error in processing the application, but I don't think they want to check.

Re: trouble with credit card rate terms and conditions

I am not saying the monthly statements were tossed.   The original offer/application mailer was tossed.   This is what they are saying we need to prove the offer was zero percent for a year.   My question is why wouldn't they have that documenation to disprove our dispute?   It is a lesson learned by my wife to not toss out valuable information like that next time.

Did she apply through a mail pre-approval or online?

Because online USBank does not even offer a 12 month 0%

That is intersting.   How do you know what they offer and what they don't.   Just curious.   Is there somewhere I can see this information?

She applied through an offer in the mail and called in by phone to request the card and balance transfer.

I just wen to USBANk' website and looked at all current offers on the different card products they offer.

But offers in the mail tend to be better than what's offered online
