Every year I buy a sim free phone and that is the reason I have Apple card. I guess Apple card is no longer useful for me.
Doesn't appear people are happy with this change. I just use carrier financing shrug at 0% shrug.

I wish I could say the same but I use prepad service since last 10 years. :-(

Mind if I ask why as you have credit from signature. Postpaid greater than prepaid imho.
I pay $35 a month for 15GB net and everything else unlimited with Verizon. It's cheaper with prepaid for me. I trade in my phone every year and pay less then $400 out of pocket for new iPhone. If I cancel postpaid service I have to pay phone installment upfront which I don't have to worry about it with prepaid. Plus I like to have sim free phone because I travel out of country often.
This could be connected to the problems Goldman Sachs currently has with the Apple Card.
It would be really great, when the Apple Card would finally been taken over by Amex.
For financing SIM-free iPhones this update is of course very bad.
That's an unfortunate nerf
