Hi Folks,
Merger mania in the airline industry is still alive and well.
British Airways is in negotiation talks with Qantas about a possible
merger. The talks are in the early stages and both airlines would keep
their brand names should the merger prove successful.
Here's the Bloomberg link. Enjoy the article!!!

BA's been making cutbacks for a few years now, but still have pretty good CS overall.
Qantas, though - ugh. They're atrocious. If they DO hook up, I hope it ends up with Qantas improving rather than BA being brought down to Q's hideous level of CS!!!
BA's customer service has always been quite good.
I'm surprised to hear that Qantas doesn't have excellent
customer service. I've never flown Qantas, but every Aussie
I've ever met has been incredibly friendly and helpful.
Then again, if you're stuck in a 747 for 14 hours flying from
Sydney to Los Angeles (or vice versa), that's an entirely
different matter. I can't even imagine being in a plane that long,
but to do it routinely must wear on people's patience after a while...
I hope the merger does go well. Business wise, the two seem to
be a perfect fit. But like you say, hopefully they can help each other
in all phases...especially in CS as you pointed out.

Yep - you'd think, wouldn't you? Aussies in general I adore for exactly the reasons you mentioned, CanDo - but the Qantas employees I encountered on my trip were unbelievably rude and obstructive, and this was at the start of my trip home, not at the end of my flight going there, so it wasn't just me being tired and grumpy.
Also, their planes just aren't as comfortable or well set-up or their flight crews, etc., as good as Air New Zealand's - so if I ever I travel 'Down Under' again, it'll be on Air NZ.

When I flew Quantas to New Zealand I had excellent service. The attendents were friendly and attentive. I flew business coach and was very impressed at the level of service and the fact that I had room to stretch (mind you I'm only 5'4 ). My dh flew BA when he went home to visit and had horrible service. I guess it depends on the flight and the day.
Thanks for your feedback, MsKiwi. Greatly appreciated.
A quick question for you: From your personal experience, how would
you compare Qantas to Air NZ? Like I said, I've never flown Qantas
(or Air NZ) but the overwhelming majority of people I've spoken to
speak very highly of both airlines. So I'm just curious to hear your
thoughts on the subject.
Many thanks in advance. Enjoy your day!
