Along with something you have like a credit card you should be required to provide something you know like a pin number.

At least that’s something Target got right with their RedCard chip cards, requiring a PIN entry for POS transactions. Now if they’d roll out that requirement on web sales too...

I buy my gas pretty much exclusively at Costco when I can, since they seem to be aware of the skimming danger (their pumps read the stripe rather than the chip, at least where I am, so shimming isn't an issue yet). Their pumps always have red tape sealing the card device to indicate that it's not been tampered with.
