Well, it was nice while it lasted. I'm glad I was able to use the MGM benefits one final time when I was in Las Vegas earlier this year.
What were the benefits? Trying to gauge what's coming with MGM partnering with Marriott.

Status matching. I was Hyatt Explorist and could match back and forth with MGM Rewards Gold (e.g. waived resort fees and free self-parking).

Unfortunately, we may not get official word until the partnership actually begins on October 1st. Presumably this includes some level of tier matching, but I would expect the MGM rewards that are gate-kept behind actual tier credit earnings (free cruise, etc) will remain so.
I'm actually really curious on the back-and-forth between the two. Marriott and United Airlines have a tier match program, but you need Titanium in Marriott to get Silver in United, and Gold in United to get Gold Elite at Marriott. Both of those are pretty high end requirements on the starting side to get pretty low-level status in the other. I'd hope that Marriott and MGM will be more reciprocal in nature.
I primarily #Vegas with Caesars Rewards, so I've been relying on that to status match to MGM (and then Hyatt). I'm sad to lose Hyatt as a meaningful option, but this means I'll have solid tier status with both major players on the Strip, which is a bit of a relief. Looks like the folks who thought Marriott-Cosmo might expand after the MGM purchase of Cosmo bet on the right horse...
