Re: An 18 year old's 5 month journey on myFICO

How? what was your first card and what did your credit look like before? Were you an authorized user on someone credit card? i am so curious as to how you attained such a credit rating in such a short period of time. Please help me understand.

Re: An 18 year old's 5 month journey on myFICO

Congratulations a big big big Congratulations!!!!

Im two months into my journey(turned 18 in december) I'm gardening Ive gotten denials left and right and my Discover and Capital one are secured...... My only non secured are Kohls VonMaur and Fingerhut.... Its nice to see how well things have gone for you I dont think I'll be getting limits as high as you are even in 5 years.... Ive read some of your other posts and realize your income is rather high (compared to myself) at $1,600 a month my income is rather high for my age which my income will drop soon when I stop getting benefits for going to school and start working 40hours a week at minimum wage.... We all have different reasons for starting our credit Journeys mine is that I hope when it comes time to get loans to put myself through college I can get lower rates (Don't burst my bubble my efforts are probably futile)

I'm not on here to post my sob stories I just want other 18 year olds out here to know that for the most part they won't have what you have in 5months when you start from nothing like I have; its going to be a long hard and slow journey(it took me several denials to realize this.) I havent had the benefit of being an authorised user on my parents accounts, through several sad events over the past 10 years my parents lost all there credit and income; Its been interesting to see my mother rebound from this she still has no credit and refuses to try and get any (after being ruined I guess its hard to try and rebuild) She and my dad fell from having an income of $2,000+ a week to having no income; with all the high limit cards they had they could no longer make the minimums leaving the accounts overdue in collections and closed. Mom flew through dads lifetime savings keeping him in hospitals and nursing homes over 5 years..... I'm putting this out there so everyone will know how quicky you can loose everything a lifetimes work gone with a few unfortunate events and health problems. Be careful people.

Other 18year olds please note that you arnt going to be getting quick approvals and high limits; youll probably have to start out with a secured credit card a Fingerhut Freshstart account and then hope you can get a store card or two. My scores are constantly fluctuating because my average age of accounts is all messed up. Im keeping my utilization low and paying everything off and only letting a 10% utilization show and I havent really gotten anywhere well Im in the low 600's and high 500's after only two months; for a week I was in the mid 600's but more accounts posted and changed the AAOA and made them drop significantly.

Best of luck to everyone on there credit Journey..... I hope everyone takes this constructively and trys to learn from it.

Mom's lol. Only after I turned 18 did he let me take some of his AAoA.

AU cards are listed in main post now.

I'm not impressed by the credit limits (I had a $50K+ cc and a $35K+ cc when I was your age; it doesn't mean a thing), but if you actually purchased multiple properties yourself, then that's truly impressive.  How, if I may ask, did you accomplish that at the tender age of 19?

Family money would be my guess.
