I need some advice please. Approximately 1 month ago I received a letter from AFNi regarding a "past due" bill from Bell South in 2004. I did not have service with Bell South or ATT in 2004 and did not owe them any $$.
I sent a DV CMRRR to AFNI immediately and they have until 06-08-08 to respond. I contacted the OC, Bell South and they have no record of ANY past due charges nor did ATT.
My EQ FICO dropped 43 points to 723 once this posted and it took them 2 weeks to add the "in dispute" statement to my CRA - all 3. I have since emailed them and called them without any type of response.
My question is this - AFNI claims I owe them $80 from 2004. I don't. They aged this on my CRA's so that it looks like this bill is owed from 2008. I was just denied a car loan from GMAC because of this and I am very angry. I spoke with Bell South on Friday and they are going to look into this on my behalf. This has caused real damages and 3 inquires on my CRA's.
Suggestions on how to proceed please.
Thanks,
HW

In doing so, Afni, Inc. strictly denies any and all liability or wrong doing with respect to the underlying account. Afni has requested that information pertaining to the underlying account be removed by the credit reporting agencies. You will receive written notice of that request by US mail, but should be advised that the credit reporting agencies may take up to 60 days to reflect any changes made to your credit report.
Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Take them to task and make them prove the charges. If you owe the money then pay them but not until they prove it is owed. I have a good friend that went through the same BS with AFNI and is still dealing with charges that he proved in writing from the original OC were incorrect and not his. AFNI has a reputation that stinks.
I was told that AFNI is currently being investigated by the Illinois AG's office because of the number of complaints. Get in line.
