hi there, after reviewing my wifes credit report, there were a few errors in there and im writing the dispute letter when i realized they still had her old address and maiden name. should i address a 2nd letter in there stating the address change or what is the best way to handle this. i was told that b/c of this they can actually add to the 30 days they have to review the dispute..not sure if thats true or not so i thought id come here and ask.
thanks in advance
Is her maiden name and old address listed as a "current name" and "current address"? If so, you'd want it changed. If not, ignore it. My DW's old info still reports. My old info reports too and shows wrong addresses, name typos, etc. There's no harm with that if reporting.
Now if the current name and info reports incorrectly, it does so because the creditors that she does business with still report that monthly. Even if you changed it with the CRAs, a creditor will change it back when they report next. If there are creditors that report monthly and still send the bills to the old address or use her maiden name, then you'll need to change that first, otherwise you'll have to do it again and again.
If nothing is reporting monthly, and if reporting as current info, then the CRA is right. They'll add up to 15 more days to the dispute based on the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Now that doesn't mean it'll take the full 45 days. It'll likely take much less than that to complete both disputes (name and creditor info).
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in replying. as for as i can tell, no one is reporting so is it ok just to add a address and name change to the buruea along with the dispute letter or should i do this in a separate mailing?
thank you
Report the address change to all your creditors so that when your credit reports it will report with the correct address.
