Before signing up for the membership, I looked at the Fico 8 score. It was higher than the score after I signed up for a 4.99 Experian membership. I locked my credit report. How is that? Is it because I locked my credit report?
Well, your score didn't drop because of membership..
Where did you get your FICO from before? How much time has elapsed since the time you first got your score and the time you signed up for membership? Even a 24 hour window between score pulls can reveal a score change if something changed on your reports during that time.
Experian and it was an hour or so prior to signing up for the membership. I tried to freeze it and it wouldn't let me, so that's why I signed up for the membership. The membership allows you to lock your credit report.
OK, so which Experian plan did you have before doing the $4.99 trial for CreditWorks Premium?
I had the free, basic one.
The alert dates don't mean that that is when the score change actually took place -- that's just when the alert of the change was generated -- the score could have changed within the 48 hours prior (though Experian is pretty good at alerting within 24 hours) -- so let's not go by that and assume the score increase of 3 pts followed by the decrease of 14 pts. happened on 2 different days.
It's my understanding that the Basic (free) plan only updates your score once per month, not daily -- correct? So when did you first start monitoring the score with the Basic membership?
Upgrading to the $4.99 CW Premium plan would have pulled an updated score / report - so I would guess it is now showing your decrease since the last time the score was updated with the Basic plan..
Just to clarify... you signed up for the free membership today? And then upgraded today as well?

Did you thoroughly review your report to make sure nothing changed or was added today?
I signed up for the 4.99 membership today if it wasn't obvious enough. Yeah, there was nothing specific about why my score decreased.

Gotcha.. Ok -- so then when was the last monthly score update under the free membership?
