this may sound silly, but why not just try to pay Chase the 3 months you are behind? if they accept it then you are no longer past due and there is no reason to have this CA involved anymore. if you just mail them a payment with one of your old bills, or better yet, go online and pay, how would that work? if you go around the phone reps who are programmed to tell you "deal with WWR" then perhaps you can wiggle out of this under the radar (assuming it hasn't been sold). couldn't hurt right? or am i wrong?

I am pretty sure that even though he said "I have a CC with Chase" he meant he "had" one, and it's now closed  Smiley Sad  So, he can't catch up like that as he's not just past due anymore.

I would try what you were saying if it wasn't for $18k though as this is exactly the way to be thinking when you are trying to save yourself from dealing with a CA when a debt is not yet sold!

Most importantly, it appears this account is still owned by Chase.

smartcookie,

i can see your point, but i guess i was hoping that he might sneak in there somehow before it's too late. from OP's post above, it looks like there may be hope yet. I avoided a garnishment from the US DEPT OF TREASURY by doing this.

cosmo,

GOOD LUCK! if the account isn't locked out online, that is a really good sign. i would assume that if they had closed your account, then you would no longer have online access. keep us posted, as this may end up being a solution for others in your situation. Smiley Happy

orhippychic,

You probably prevented cosmo from having a serious nightmare of a problem by suggesting this backdoor approach.  Awesomely brilliant!  Really amazing!

Re: Anyone familiar with " Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A.,"

sadly this kind of thinking came from years of being a single mom and using payday loans and overdraft protection to keep the elctricity on. thankfully those days are over and i can now use my powers for good instead of evil... Smiley Wink

PS - Evil meaning getting myself in so much financial trouble that i almost lost everything. i did gain some useful knowledge though, and I'm so happy to help when i can. i just hope this works for our OP.  Smiley Happy

Evil hippy!  Smiley Tongue  Well you certainly learned well... this is huge here for him!
Hey do you think he should try to do some sort of payment today and the balance of this $4700 the original date he has scheduled just to try to keep the account in the system and get something in?  I'm worried that due to Murphy's Law, that account might get closed the day before the payment goes thru or something like that.

Re: Anyone familiar with " Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A.,"

I actually thought about that too. cosmo, when you said next week did you mean monday? if so then it should be ok. we must remember that it's friday and the CCC will not process anything with his bank until at least monday, and depending on the timezone they're in it could be after lunch already...
