Auto loan paid

I was in a recent car accident (31 Oct 10) and totaled lost my van. The insurance company paid the van off and I had some funds left over. once the lien holder reports to the CB which should be around 10 December, should my score go up any or probably not. the balance that shows on my credit file is $12,494 with my revolving credit at $1,512. I'm trying to work on cleaning my credit, so i can purchase our first house..single parent of 3 teens. thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello and welcome to myFICO.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I hope no one was hurt.

Paying off installment loans doesn't affect your score as much as reducing revolving credit but on the bright side you will have less overall debt and that is always a good thing.  Smiley Happy

You say your revolving credit balance is $1,512. Do you know what your available credit limits are? I ask because revolving credit utilization (total balances divided by total available credit limits) is 30% of your total score so getting it low and keeping it low is the fastest way to help your score. Do you know what your utilization is right now?
