Capital One Financial and Discover Financial are to be the new Beginning

The merger between Capital One and Discover has received all necessary regulatory approvals and is set to close on May 18, 2025. This $35.3 billion deal, first announced in February 2024, will create the largest U.S. credit card issuer.

For those who see possibilities of new products and services along with a robust "processing network" that may rival the present big three of American Express, MasterCard and Visa; this represents a day for a new beginning.

Again, for many who have had products from each of the merger partners and have many views, this just may not be the best day on the calendar?

As an old time Discover card holder, a former Capital One card holder and a former Diners Club card holder (true Diners Club back in the day) this could be the dawn of a new day.

Re: Capital One Financial and Discover Financial are to be the new Beginning

I think this merger is great for competition in the CC transaction network.  Visa/MC are in need of a serious competitor and C1, in conjunction with the existing Novus Network, will be able to bring it.  C1 has the infrastructure and resources to bring serious challenges to the other big three.
