Changed Status - Paid Collection. Can they do this?

I recently disputed a paid collection on my CR's from National Credit Systems b/c I had a letter, that my old apt community (OC - they turned it over to the CA)  gave me to give to my new apt community so they would rent to me, that stated the following:

(My Name) has paid all money owed to (Apt Community) on above date.  National Credit Systems was contacted and any past debt will be removed from his credit.  If you have any please contact (old apt community) etc.

Any way I used that letter to dispute with the CRA's as it should have been deleted from my CR's, but it hasn't.  I have had no luck with the old apt comm. b/c they are no longer owned by the same management company and the people have all changed in the office.

I then today notice on my EX report that is shows the following changes.
Reported Since, Date of Status and Last Reported went from 2/07 to 1/08.
The account history was also changed to Collection as of February 2007 to Collection as of January 2008.

Can they change that info?  What can I do about getting this removed since obviously sending the letter did no good??

What did the CRAs come back with as a response? Typically, not always though, a computer will ask another computer at the CA: is this debt legit? The computer responds with a resounding yes and you get stuck with an e-mail or letter from the CRA saying it's been verified. You can always try a MOV letter on their method of verifying. I'd also DV the CA. I read here this week that someone DVed a paid collection and it got deleted.

If all else fails, a GW may work.

As per dates, this date is the date that the CA updated your file with the CRA. It doesn't mean anything to FICO and at least you'll know relatively quickly when they made changes to your file.

I would be concerned with the 'collection as of date'.  Does it give a new status date?  Does it show paid?  If the status date has not changed that is the one you should be concerned about.  If it has I would definitely contact the CA in writing with a copy of the letter asking that they remove the collection.  Further, If they have changed the date, Iwould definitely look into the possibility that the debt has been reaged which would do them no good since it has been paid.

I have one that I disputed as paid and the status date if the same, 6 years ago. But the reported date is now 1 year ago and I get declines due to collections within the past two years. because of the reporting date.

Re: Changed Status - Paid Collection. Can they do this?

On the original EX report, there, in the first column under address, are 4 fields. Obviously, Reported Since, Date of Status, and Last Reported are the same and look off. Now go to the field on the right hand side that says "Status Details". It should say..."This account is scheduled to continue on record until xxxxx date." Now subtract 7 years and 1 month from that date. This new date is the DOFD \when the account went bad. If it matches your own personal records, you are fine (other than to take action). If the dates don't match, yea, then challenge it.

Re: Changed Status - Paid Collection. Can they do this?

This is exactly what it shows now.  I am afraid that it is showing a more current collection that could cost me.  It has no date of estimated removal on the report either.  I have sent the MOV to the CRA.  I have also sent the letter to the CA.  I am wondering though if this new info will affect if they don't delete.

Re: Changed Status - Paid Collection. Can they do this?

I just had that problem and resolved it by going over people's heads and pleading my case about how they've hurt me financially because I was getting turned down left and right for business credit. It was removed the next day after leaving a voicemail on the manager's voicemail. Berks is a notoriously hard collection agency to deal with but I won.

I paid the debt in 2004 and they updated it to October 2007 which got me turned down for 4 loans and cards which I had to PG also so it was a double hit. 4 new inquiries and no credit. If I didn't apply I wouldn't have known it was updated. Doubt I'll get credit with those companies now but at least I did whatever it took to get it off since it was not correct.

Go over heads if you have to. Companies should have no right to do things like this. You already have to pay the price for 7 years and there is no need to pay the price twice.

No.  The money was paid to my old apartment complex.  I didn't believe I owed that money, but it was either pay it and have them write that letter to my new apt complex or be homeless!!! Smiley Happy

Re: Changed Status - Paid Collection. Can they do this?

I have this same problem on my experian report. both are for paid collections of less than 60.00 that i paid in the last couple months. there is not a status detail line for removal of the entry. what does this mean? i didnt know about pfd when i paid the oc instead of the ca so i was going to gw the ca in hopes of getting the collections removed. is this the right thing to do or should i dispute with the cra and if so on what grounds i really need these two collections removed  i have a few other collections that i am trying to get removed but i thought that i would start with these. i wont send the gw until i hear something back. the ca are ic systems and state collection services.has anyone had any luck with gw with either of nthese agencies?
